Taxcut 2007 allows 5 Federal returns to be filed. I'd like to file
more than 5. I purchased a second copy of the Taxcut 2007 software,
uninstalled the program that I used to file my first 5 returns, then
installed the second copy, but it will not allow me to file any more
returns - somehow it does not differentiate that it is a new
installation or something.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this?
Thanks in advance.

It's reading the data from the 5 returns on your disk.
Tax Cut intended for the program to be used by ONE person to file their
personal return and that of their immediate family. They estimated that
they should offer 5 returns - mom & dad filing MFS, and the three rugrats -
5.....mom & dad filing MFS, two kids and a grandma on both sides - 5.
I would think they have valid concerns about someone preparing 10 individual
returns maybe preparing for a fee. That's most likely different software at
a higher price.
And dontchaknow you can't call tech support.

I tried un-installing the application, removing the data files,
deleting the folders, even tracking and deleting the registry keys of
the first installation, then installing my 2nd copy and it still
blocks me! I think I may have to install my 2nd copy on a different
machine to work around this issue, but it would be nice to be able to
use my own computer. I don't like the idea of my personal data being
stored and transmitted from a friend's machine. |

You don't need 10 returns with "your" data on them. One should suffice.
Maybe next year be sure you get a program that does the 10+ returns you need
to do.

Can you recommend any such program that will do over 5 returns? |

Just about any of the professional programs offer an unlimited number of
returns prepared.
Some also offer a "pay-per-return" option so that you don't have to fork
over a grand or more to get your ten returns done.
I wouldn't be surprised if TaxCut didn't have a professional version.

Taxact (www.taxact.com) use to handle unlimited returns but you had to pay
$8 each efiling.

Hi- I’m a product manager H&R block, I work on the TaxCut products….the
5-e-file limit is mandated by the IRS, who limit 5-e-filed returns per
computer. As others have stated, installing a second copy of TaxCut on a
different machine will allow for 5 more, etc.

From the IRS web site:
"You can transmit a maximum of five returns using tax preparation
software, so you can prepare returns for family and friends as well."

What allows me to file hundreds of returns from the same machine. |

Using personal software like TaxCut or TurboTax, or professional
software? The IRS FAC I quoted was for individual tax software and not
for professional software.
But read it for yourself, I posted the link to the IRS information.
Also look at PUB 1345 (Handbook for Authorized IRS e-file Providers of
Individual Income Tax Returns) under "Transmission Requirements" in
Chapter 4:
"When participating in Online Filing, the Transmitter must:"
"7. Ensure that it does not transmit or accept for transmission more
than five electronic returns originating from one software package or
from one e-mail address;"

The fact that you are an ERO and have your own EFIN number.

Yes sir......
Then why does the software ~prohibit~ him from preparing as many returns as
he wants.......
E-filing returns is not the same as preparing them.
The software company is locking him out of _preparing_ more than 5 returns -
even when he bought more software (a second set of 5 returns should be able
to be prepared at least).
What law restricts him from preparing more than 5 returns. On a second
software license at that. |

There may be a hidden in some unexpected directory that keeps count.
