Investment Tax Question

Hello! I have had Nortel stock from the Harris Direct days which was
bought out by E*Trade. Back in 2001-2 I bought Nortel over several
purchases as they were going down. I gave up on Nortel and sold the
lot in 2006. E*Trade has reported I sold 200 stocks (wrong amount)
for the right amount of money. They also did not report when I
purchased the stock or my basis. When I put in my basis it shows a
loss like is should.

My question are:
What date shoud I use for the purchase date? I'm taking a stab that
it is the last date.

Do they really look that close?
