I have a 2006.tax file from last year but I don't have Turbotax 2006.

Is there away to turn that tax file into a PDF file or a hard copy
without the program?

I doubt it. Did you file for 2006? You can request your tax info from
the IRS:
http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=105370,00.html

Alternately you can:
A) ask around, a friend may have 2006 on his machine and let you print
your return
B) you can go to Intuit and buy a prior year's TurboTax
C) you can go to ebay and payless than (B)

I doubt it; it is a birary DATA file that Turbo Tax needs to be able to read
to create anything meaningful out of it.

So saying that, I understand you can probably buy a used copy of TT off of
eBay (perfectly legal I think if you receive the original media?) and get at
the data that way.

When you get it, be sure to 'print' a complete version for your records in
the .pdf format and save it next to your .tax file to avoid this problem in
the future as well as printing a hardcopy as well .

From TurboTax web site:

Which Prior-Year Products Are Available?
Updated: 12/27/2007
Article ID: 585

If you need to prepare taxes for a previous tax year, you can purchase
TurboTax software for tax years 2003-2006. Both federal and state
products are available for Windows and Mac. Previous versions of
TurboTax Business (Windows only) are available, too.

Note: If you purchased a TurboTax download, you can redownload it for
free for three years from the product release date. For steps, see
Download TurboTax.

To order prior-year TurboTax software, click here.

No.

Only Turbotax 2006 can read a Turbotax 2006 file.

You could try www.taxprinter.com. You send them your .tax
file and they send back a PDF of your return. It costs less
than buying the 2006 TurboTax program.

I have never used this service, so I can't make a
recommendation. I'm just making you aware of it.

But it's not safe to send your turbo tax file to anyone on the
internet as they would have your social security number.

Form 4506 can be used to get the IRS to mail you a copy of your tax
return, but it costs $39 plus the 41 or 42 cent stamp. I'm sure you
can buy the software package for less.

http://www.proseries.com/ is an Intuit product. Maybe you can
download their trial and use it to read in a turbo tax file. It's
possible that the online product at http://turbotax.intuit.com/ can
also read in a file on your hard disk. I have not tried any of these
suggestions though.
