My wife, the Warrior Princess, and I took early retirement in 1997.
BAD NEWS: Warrior Princess, cashed-in a tax-deferred pension
instrument which helped raise our adjusted gross income to $179K for
2007. That's too much income to qualify for a rebate. She should
have waited another year.
GOOD NEWS: Interest income of $44K is not counted; Qualifying income
is $135K. YAY!!!
BAD NEWS: Non-SSA pensions are not counted, so qualifying income
including wages, self-employment, and SSA = $0 and VA disability =
$1,300. Too little for a rebate. Boooooo!
BWAHAHA! Laughed my white ass off in the po' boy shithouse at the
unfolding irony.

All you've told me is that you won't get any pre-bate this summer. You can
take a few steps to qualify and get the additional money tacked onto your
2008 return (more of a refund or that much less due).

Wait till you get a load of his Bumfoxed Alabama economic stimulus program

The rebate is based on your *2007* tax return. |

But it's an advance on a 2008 credit - so if you don't get the full credit -
based on your 2007 data - you'll get the difference in 2008.

You're responding to an ignorant prairie woman who should spend more
time making quilts, baking fattening pies, and lecturing her grandkids
on the dangers of meth ... rather than delving into tax issues. |

*sigh*
I'm a tax accountant. If you do not file a tax return for 2007, you will
not get a rebate. That's where they are getting the qualifying names from.
You have to make at least $3,000 of qualifying income, you do *not* have to
pay taxes. Qualifying income includes social security, railroad retirement
and veterans pensions. It does not include pensions from IRA's and other
retirement plans, SSI, dividends, interest or capital gains income. The
rebate ranges from $300 to $600 per person. It is based on your *2007*
income, not 2008. It is a rebate, not an advance refund on next years
taxes. |

Not in teh summer of 2008, no.
But there will be a refundable credit on your 2008 return that will account
for the amount of rebate you should have received above and beyond the
amount you actually received.

Wanna bet.
It's an advance on a 2008 credit. |

That is NOT what the e-mails I received from the state, which administers
the rebate checks, say. Where are you getting your information from? |
